The final race of the 2018 Slingshot Racing Cup season took place this past week at Gimli Motorsport Park and exhibited some of the closest wheel-to-wheel racing of the season.
To the delight of professional race car driver, David Richert, the entire field of competitors posted qualifying times all within just 1.2 seconds of each other. “We have a group of novice to complete rookie racing drivers so to see someone go from having never driven on a racetrack, to posting lap times only one second off our Slingshot track record, is phenomenal,” said David Richert.
The 2018 Slingshot Racing Cup Championship Title was clinched by Myles Kraut in his Karma Property Management Slingshot with Darren Miller securing 2nd overall and Dan Gagnon rounding out the podium in 3rd.
Organized by SAR Sport & Recreation in Steinbach, and race car driver David Richert, the Slingshot Racing Cup is the only racing championship in the world to feature Polaris’ unique 3-wheeled roadster called the Slingshot. The race series, sponsored by AMSOIL and Rainbow Trailers, is designed to be a safe and affordable way for interested drivers to experience the world of wheel-to-wheel racing but to do so in a thrilling vehicle like the Slingshot.
With interest coming from other parts of North America, expansion plans for a 2019 Slingshot Racing Cup are already being explored. “It’s very unique for a racing championship to start in a place like Manitoba,” said David Richert. “I think we’ve done a solid job creating something special here so we will evaluate our options in the weeks to come and hopefully take a look at expanding this fun concept internationally.”
