The Manitoba government welcomes the expansion of high-speed wireless LTE coverage by Bell MTS in southeast Manitoba.
“Better, faster service not only helps protect Manitobans in times of emergency but also improves daily life for those who work and call the area their home,” said Premier Brian Pallister. “We thank Bell MTS for following through on this promise. We’ll continue to work with industry partners, the business community and other levels of government to improve wireless access in Manitoba, and look forward to further progress being made.”
The premier noted Bell MTS will build three new LTE-advanced cellular sites in Woodridge, Zhoda and Stuartburn to extend wireless service to these communities for the first time.
“We are very proud of this investment, which will bring our world-class wireless broadband service to three more communities. It will also provide more continuous coverage for highway travelers in remote parts of southeast Manitoba,” said Dan McKeen, vice-chair, Bell MTS. “Our investments are driving social and economic growth in this province.”
Bell MTS is continuing to invest $1 billion over five years to bring next-generation broadband communications networks and services to Manitoba, including expansion of high-speed mobile and wireline networks in northern Manitoba, and continuous wireless coverage from Thompson to the U.S. border.
“The AMM appreciates the commitment made by Bell MTS to extend wireless service in southeast Manitoba,” said Chris Goertzen, president, Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM). “Sustained network infrastructure upgrades are essential for improving public safety, increasing competitiveness of businesses and maximizing job opportunities in local communities.”
The premier noted earlier this year, the Manitoba government made a $20-million commitment to help provide increased broadband connectivity to First Nations, rural and northern Manitoba communities.
