Manitoba Pork is encouraging all of the province’s pork producers to enroll and participate in the Manitoba Coordinated Disease Response.
The Manitoba Coordinated Disease Response is a password protected on-line information sharing platform designed allow Manitoba’s pig producers to share disease information.
Jenelle Hamblin, the Manager of Swine Health Programs with Manitoba Pork, explains the program is administered by Manitoba Pork, disease status information comes from the Office of Manitoba’s Chief Veterinarian and participants must agree to keep all information confidential.
The goal of the MCDR is to be a one stop shop for current disease information related to, specifically at this time Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus, PED as it was designed and launched in 2017, the MCDR, as a result of the outbreak of PED. We do have intention and would like to continue to develop the MCDR to include other diseases, namely Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome, PRRS and others if we’re able to but those two will be the focus for now.
The primary focus initially for getting the agreement signed for the MCDR was that southeastern part of the province as that was where we had our PED cases present. We have now expanded the focus to all of Manitoba and currently I am happy to report that we have had a 78 percent uptake on the MCDR in the southeast and we’re up to 47 percent uptake province-wide.
We’re really pleased with the efforts that we’ve made to get those agreements signed and we definitely want to maintain that focus outside of just the southeast and get those producers in the rest of Manitoba onto the platform.
