Oakbank RCMP have identified and charged a 42-year-old male suspect who is wanted for numerous fraud related offences.
Between July 4 and October 19, 2018, Oakbank RCMP investigated a series of mail thefts, theft from motor vehicles, and break and enters. Police initially investigated these occurrences as separate incidents but later linked them to a series of identity frauds and forged documents.
With the assistance of Beausejour RCMP and East St. Paul RCMP, investigators determined that the suspect attended several financial institutions located in the City of Winnipeg and surrounding areas and opened several false bank accounts under a false name. Those accounts were opened using forged government identification.
On October 19, 2018, three unendorsed warrants of arrest were issued for 42-year-old Emery Peter Smith of Winnipeg. He has been charged with 17 offences including uttering forged documents, possession of property obtained from crime, failing to comply with condition of recognizance and obtaining credit by fraud.
Emery Smith is described as, 5’7″ tall, weighs 141 lbs, has black hair and brown eyes. Police say that Smith may be in the Winnipeg area.
