RCMP Commercial Crime and Headingley Detachment have made an arrest in fraud investigation that began in May of 2017.

In May 2017, a complaint was made to RCMP regarding an act of fraud. Police say that an elderly couple from the Headingley RCMP Detachment area had engaged the services of someone who had presented himself as a financial and tax advisor.

A joint investigation between Headingley RCMP and the RCMP Commercial Crime Unit was initiated. Investigators were able to determine that Charles Morrison, 69, of Winnipeg, who did not have a current professional designation in the financial field, had convinced the couple to cash out a significant portion of their assets for him to take care of on their behalf. It was ultimately determined that Morrison converted the funds for his own personal benefit.

“Morrison enticed these people to provide funds – unfortunately, those funds do not appear to be used as intended,” said Sgt. Breanne Chanel, a member of the RCMP Commercial Crime Unit. “People are reminded to do their research when it comes to selecting a trusted financial advisor.”

RCMP report that Morrison has been arrested and charged with two counts of theft over $5000.
