Ted Falk, Member of Parliament for Provencher, commented on the recent decision by the Canada Border Services Agency to hold off on changes to the hours of operation at border crossings in southeastern Manitoba.
Earlier this week, Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale’s office verbally confirmed that the proposed changes, slated to come in effect on Nov. 26, have been put on hold.
“Residents of Southeastern Manitoba came out in big numbers in opposition to these proposed changes from the Liberal Government,” said MP Falk.”Changes to the hours of operation for these border crossings would have had a tremendous negative impact on border communities and the people who call those communities home,” added Falk.”Residents across Provencher voiced their concerns loud and clear.”
Minister Goodale’s office stated that the decision to put the reduction of hours on hold was made in order to provide more time for community consultations.
“While this news is very encouraging, we must remember that the federal government could revisit this issue at any time and we must be prepared to voice our concerns should the opportunity arise again,” concluded Falk.
