A 27-year-old Canupawakpa Dakota First Nation man has died after being in a recent altercation with another individual at a local residence located in Virden, Manitoba.
On January 15, 2019, at approximately 12:30am, Virden RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence located on Queen Street West in the community of Virden. Upon arrival, officers located two males who were involved in an altercation with each other – a 22-year-old male from Virden and a 27-year-old male from the Canupawakpa Dakota First Nation. Both men were transported to hospital with serious injuries.
RCMP report that 22-year-old Bradley Kenneth Tomms was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and uttering threats. He was remanded into custody for a court appearance scheduled in Brandon Provincial Court.
Police say that on January 16, the 27-year-old succumbed to his injuries sustained in the assault. The next day, Bradley Kenneth Tomms was arrested and charged with second degree murder and once again remanded into custody.
RCMP Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate this incident.
