Funds from the Manitoba Heritage Trust Program will flow to the Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre in Morden and the Manitoba Agriculture Museum in Austin thanks to the commendable fundraising efforts by both museums.
“We are very encouraged by the enthusiasm many museums have shown toward the Heritage Trust Program, which helps create a partnership that will ensure the sustainability of community museums and archives,” Sport, Culture and Heritage Minister Cathy Cox said. “The Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre and the Manitoba Agriculture Museum provide excellent educational opportunities for visitors both young and young at heart, and I would like to congratulate and thank everyone involved in these fundraising efforts.”
The Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre in Morden will receive a provincial contribution of $10,000, following its successful fundraising campaign that generated $20,000. In addition, the Manitoba Agricultural Museum has raised $21,000 to date and based on these efforts, the province will contribute $10,500.
“It is great to see these exciting partnerships, with local contributions driving provincial support to help showcase and preserve our history,” Municipal Relations Minister Jeff Wharton said. “Our government is pleased to support local museums and archives across Manitoba.”
“Across the province, Manitobans are seeing the value in establishing an endowment fund today, to help preserve their past for the future to enjoy,” said Rick Frost, CEO, The Winnipeg Foundation. “These new fund collaborations between museums, archives and their local community foundations will help ensure our shared history is here for all, for generations to come.”
Administered by The Winnipeg Foundation, the Manitoba Heritage Trust Program offers provincial support with stretch grants of one dollar for every two dollars raised by community museums and archives.
