The Manitoba Government officially launched stakeholder consultations for the development of its sustainable protein strategy and is now accepting public input and direction as it moves to develop a first-of-its-kind sustainable protein strategy.
Manitoba Agriculture Minister Ralph Eichler says ultimately the Manitoba Protein Advantage will be a multi-stakeholder strategy with calls to action to stakeholders leading or influencing agri-food development.
In our throne speech of 2018 we made it very clear that Manitoba has the right attitude and the right team to build its protein capacity. As well we have a strong leadership with industry, we have great processors, we have access to top talent and of course leading research and innovation assets that help us form an environment that will position Manitoba for success. Also we have the right business environment, we have the right investment environment so we’re geared up for a way to move forward to accelerate not only our growth but also our potential as a province going forward.
We want to be North America’s protein suppler of choice, we want to be leading Canada in sustainable protein industry growth that benefits our profitability and competiveness of Manitoba producers, processors and of course the provincial economy. This is very important to us in agriculture. It follows up on my mandate to find more value added and more processing capacity in Manitoba.
~ Ralph Eichler, Agriculture Minister Manitoba
Eichler says the Manitoba government sees this as an opportunity to expand growth within the agriculture sector within Manitoba to make Manitoba the most improved province in all of Canada.
