Steinbach RCMP report that two arrests have been made in a drug trafficking investigation (dubbed Project Defunct) that began in July of 2018.
In July 2018, Steinbach RCMP Detachment began Project Defunct, a multiple month project targeting individuals trafficking controlled substances from licenced premises.
As a direct result of this project, 23-year-old Andrew Liam McGuirk was arrested in Steinbach on December 6, 2018. McGuirk was charged with three counts of trafficking cocaine. RCMP seized over five grams of cocaine from him as part of the investigation.
Also arrested in this investigation was 21-year-old Daniel Hert. Hert was arrested on November 9, 2018 in Steinbach and subsequently charged with two counts of trafficking cocaine and two counts of possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. RCMP executed a search warrant at Daniel Hert’s residence which resulted in a total of over 31 grams of cocaine, three firearms and a variety of drug related materials being seized.
RCMP report that both Andrew McGuirk and Daniel Hert were released on bail and are scheduled for court.
