Manitoba RCMP members continued their focus on high-risk driving behaviours during the October 7-10, 2016, “Operation Impact” Enforcement campaign. During the weekend campaign, RCMP officers issued charges for the following:

  • 12 Criminal Code impaired driving charges
  • 8 alcohol/drug-related administrative roadside suspensions
  • 18 charges for failing to wear seatbelts
  • 7 charges for using a handheld electronic device while driving
  • 944 traffic-related charges, including speeding, intersection-related offences, among other provincial charges
  • 7 other Criminal Code traffic offences

Three traffic-related fatalities (as a result of two collisions) occurred over the Thanksgiving long weekend this year.

During the 2015 campaign, officers reported:

  • 19 Criminal Code impaired driving charges (including 1 Impaired by Drug)
  • 12 alcohol/drug-related administrative roadside suspensions
  • 18 charges for failing to wear seatbelts
  • 6 charges for using a handheld electronic device while driving
  • 504 traffic-related charges, including speeding, intersection-related offences, among other provincial charges
  • 18 other Criminal Code traffic offences

Two traffic-related fatalities occurred over the Thanksgiving long weekend last year.

“Educating the public in safe driving practices remains the priority of all RCMP Traffic Services Units and Detachments,” said Chief Superintendent Mark Fisher, Officer in Charge of Criminal Operations.
