Selkirk RCMP have arrested a male suspect in connection to a recent home invasion that occurred at an elderly couple’s residence located in the RM of St. Andrews, Manitoba.
On June 18, 2019, at approximately 3:10am, Selkirk RCMP responded to a report of a robbery in progress at a location on Norwood Road in the RM of St. Andrews. While traveling to the scene, RCMP officers continued to get updates from the 911 operator – advising that a male had broken into the residence, had a knife, and lots of yelling could be heard.
Upon arrival at the scene, Selkirk RCMP located a male suspect leaving the residence wearing a hood tied tightly around his face. The male took off running and was apprehended a short distance away from the residence.
RCMP report that a 17-year-old male from Winnipeg was arrested in connection to this incident. Numerous charges are pending against the suspect, including robbery with a weapon, breaking and entering with intent, disguised with intent to commit an offence, forcible confinement, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats and theft.
Police investigation determined that the suspect was also involved in the theft of a vehicle in Winnipeg. Police noted that the suspect had driven the vehicle to the location on Norwood Road.
RCMP say that Police Dog Services attended the scene and did a search. Stolen property and the knife involved in the incident was recovered as a result.
Police noted that the victims, a 78-year-old male and a 77-year-old female, were treated and released on scene by paramedics.
