An officer with the Roblin RCMP Detachment is facing a number of assault related charges in connection to an incident that occurred in December of 2018.

On December 11, 2018, the Detachment Commander of the Roblin RCMP received information from a third party alleging that an adult female may be the victim of an assault and that the alleged offender was an officer stationed at the Roblin Detachment. The victim was identified as being a resident of a community located in eastern Saskatchewan.

Following a detailed investigation by the Manitoba RCMP West District office, an officer of the Manitoba RCMP was arrested on June 6, 2019 and charged with assault, assault with a weapon and impaired driving. These charges were in relation to several off duty incidents that occurred in 2017 and 2018 in the Municipality of Roblin.

The officer, Cst. Jason Kitzul, is scheduled to appear in Roblin Provincial Court on July 18, 2019. Kitzul is a 12-year member of the RCMP and is currently suspended with pay.

RCMP report that the Manitoba Independent Investigation Unit was notified at the time this information came forward. They will not be asserting jurisdiction on this matter.
