A member of the RCMP has been charged with assault following an investigation by the Independent Investigation Unit (IIU).
On September 18, 2018, RCMP notified the IIU that on the evening of September 12, 2018, two officers in Thompson responded to a call regarding an intoxicated female. On attending, the officers became involved in an altercation with a male bystander that resulted in one of the officers punching the man several times in the face.
The IIU conducted a thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances of the incident and Civilian Director Zane Tessler has determined there are reasonable and probable grounds to believe a criminal offence occurred.
Constable Greg Oke has been charged with one count of assault. He was issued an appearance notice requiring him to appear in Provincial Court in Thompson on August 9.
As this matter is now before the court, the IIU will not make any further comment on its investigation.
The details of this investigation were first announced on September 19, 2018.
