A member of the RCMP has been charged with sexual assault following an Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) investigation.
The IIU received notification of the incident on March 15, 2019 from the RCMP. RCMP indicated they had been advised by the Winnipeg Police Service that an RCMP officer was being investigated for an allegation of sexual assault that occurred in February. The IIU then took over the investigation.
The IIU conducted a thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances of the incident and Civilian Director Zane Tessler has determined there are reasonable and probable grounds to believe a criminal offence occurred.
Constable Peter Mangera has been charged with one count of sexual assault. He was issued an appearance notice requiring him to appear in Provincial Court in Winnipeg on August 7.
