A male airplane pilot was recently rescued by RCMP after his plane crashed into rocks on Fedirchyk Lake near Little Grand Rapids.
On July 11, 2019, at approximately 5pm, Little Grand Rapids RCMP received a report of a float plane crash and an injured pilot at a location on Fedirchyk Lake, 12 kilometres southwest of Little Grand Rapids.
Police say that the report indicated that a float plane was taking off from the remote lake when it collided with rocks.
At 5:30 pm, RCMP, along with paramedics, were flown to Fedirchyk Lake by helicopter. The pilot was located at 5:45 pm in a conscious state and was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were no other passengers on board.
“It was fortunate that a helicopter was at the Little Grand Rapids airport assisting Manitoba Sustainable Development with local forest fires,” said Sergeant Glen Binda, Detachment commander of Little Grand Rapids. “Their help was essential in the rescue due to the remote location of the lake, working collaboratively with Manitoba Sustainable Development was critical for a successful outcome.”
The Transportation Safety Board along with the RCMP continue to investigate this incident.
