Two people have died as the result of a recent collision between a semi and pickup truck on Highway 1 near the Whiteshell Provincial Park.
On July 21, 2019 at approximately 11:15am, Falcon Beach RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision at a location on Highway 1 near Barren Lake in Whiteshell Provincial Park.
Initial police investigation has determined that an eastbound vehicle stopped abruptly on the highway. At the same time, a semi truck, also traveling east, crossed into the westbound lane in an attempt to avoid colliding with the stopped vehicle. As a result, the semi collided with a pickup truck traveling west, causing both vehicles to veer off the highway.
Police say that the driver of the pickup truck, a 54-year-old male, along with the passenger, a 17-year-old male, both from Dryden, Ontario, were pronounced deceased on scene.
RCMP report that the semi-truck driver, a 22-year-old male from Mississauga, Ontario, along with a passenger, a 28-year-old male from Brampton, Ontario, sustained minor injuries.
Falcon Lake RCMP along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist continue to investigate this incident.
