A 60-year-old male boater was recently located safe and sound on Lake Manitoba after being reported as missing.
On July 20, 2019, at approximately 9:40am, Ste. Rose du Lac RCMP received a report stating that a 60-year-old man, who was camping at Vakker Beach Campground on Lake Manitoba, was missing. Police noted that the man was last seen fishing in his boat on the lake on July 19, at approximately 5pm.
RCMP report that the man did not return to his campsite and local campers began a search on the water that morning.
RCMP Search and Rescue responded and determined that the boater may have drifted across Lake Manitoba to the Ashern and Lundar area. RCMP coordinated a land and air search, which included assistance from Manitoba Sustainable Development and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC).
Police say that at approximately 3pm, the JRCC located the boater through its air search and coordinated his return to shore where he was met by RCMP search personnel. The boater was reported to be in good spirits and did not sustain any injuries.
