The Steinbach Chamber of Commerce recently announced that Gwen Reimer has taken on the role of Program Director for Eastman Immigrant Services (EIS).
Reimer brings with her over 16 years of experience working with newcomers, including teaching English with SEELS (South East English & Literacy Services) and the Red River College’s Language Training Centre. She has also worked as the Volunteer and Integration Coordinator for EIS.
“It is a passion of mine to serve newcomers to our area and to help them access services and settle well,” said Reimer. “EIS is comprised of an incredible team of people who provide a wide variety of services to new immigrants, and I am thrilled to work as part of this team.”
“Both the Chamber and EIS are very excited to welcome Gwen into this role,” said Tim Schmitt, President of the Steinbach Chamber. “We have full confidence that she will help to facilitate the ongoing success of this significant community program.”
EIS is the largest program run by the Steinbach Chamber and works to assist new immigrants settling in Southeastern Manitoba. The program aims to make initial settlement a rewarding experience for newcomers. Services include reception and orientation; special events and activities; access to community resources; English training; employment and career coaching; and notary services.
Reimer officially began as EIS Program Director on August 1, 2019.
