The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that resulted in a serious injury to a 26-year-old male.
The IIU confirms that on Friday, October 18, 2019, the Winnipeg Police Service notified the IIU of an incident occurring that morning in the 300 block of Riverton Avenue involving an officer-involved shooting. A male suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to hospital, where he is currently in stable condition. As any injury caused by the discharge of a police firearm is defined as a serious injury under IIU regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
