The members and staff of Manitoba Pork have been recognized for outstanding philanthropy.
Manitoba Pork Council represents Manitoba’s pork producers working in the areas of industry performance including animal care, food safety and human resources, public affairs focusing on how its members are represented to the public and research and sustainability.
On Friday, in acknowledgement of its contributions to the community, the Manitoba chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals recognized Manitoba Pork Council, its staff and its members for their “Outstanding Contribution to Philanthropy.”
George Matheson, the Chair of Manitoba Pork, says the organization felt honoured to be nominated by the Agriculture Department at the University of Manitoba and was delighted by the recognition.
We participate in charities such as Siloam Mission and the Salvation Army. Those are two primary examples. We will give contributions in kind, using the time of our staff members. There will be financial contributions as well as food, in our case, pork contributions to the charities. We also get involved in education in the province donating to the Bruce D. Campbell Centre as well as Assiniboine Community College, especially their new meat cutting department. We also promote a healthy lifestyle in regards to community activities. With sports activities such as that, you will often see Manitoba Pork as a sponsor and contributing to those type of community events.

Matheson says from those who have good fortune and are rewarded, much is expected in regards to what they give back, it’s the right thing to do, it feels good to do it and all of society benefits.
