During the evening hours of November 13, 2019, Steinbach RCMP responded to two theft incidents that had occurred at Superstore and Walmart, both located on Highway 12 North in Steinbach.
In the first incident, occurring just before 7pm, Steinbach RCMP responded to a report about a theft that had taken place at Superstore in Steinbach. Officers were on scene within minutes of the call and were able to apprehend the male suspect immediately.
Police say that the male had various items on his person along with break-in instruments and a weapon. It was discovered later that he had also stolen liquor from the nearby Liquor Mart store.
Just before 8pm on the same day, Steinbach RCMP received another report of theft. This incident had occurred at the Walmart store located beside Clearspring Centre in Steinbach. Officers responded immediately after receiving the report and were able to chase after the male suspect, resulting in the suspect being apprehended.
In this incident, the male suspect had several stolen items on him as well as a weapon. The 34 year-old male from Steinbach was remanded into custody and is facing charges of theft, carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. RCMP are still investigating other thefts that may have involved the same individual. Police believe they prevented a more serious crime from happening by arresting this individual.
RCMP report that in the first incident, the 31-year-old male suspect from Steinbach is facing numerous theft related charges. He was remanded into custody and will appear for court in Winnipeg.
