A 59-year-old man has died after the farm tractor he was driving was struck by a pickup truck at a location near Arborg, Manitoba.
On November 23, 2019, at approximately 6:15pm, Arborg RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Road 130 North, at a location approximately six kilometres east of Arborg, in the RM of Bifrost.
Police investigation has determined that a pickup truck, being driven by a 50-year-old male, was traveling east at a high rate of speed when it collided into the rear of an eastbound farm tractor, being driven by a 59-year-old male. The 59-year-old driver of the farm tractor was ejected as a result of the collision and pronounced deceased on scene.
RCMP report that the driver of the pickup truck was not injured in the collision but was subsequently arrested for impaired driving and transported back to the Arborg RCMP Detachment. He was later released from custody with numerous court imposed conditions and scheduled to appear in court at a later date on charges including impaired operation of a conveyance causing death.
The ongoing investigation, being conducted by the Arborg RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, will include a thorough examination of the tractor to determine if proper working lights were in use at the time of the collision as the lack of visibility may have been a factor.
