An 84-year-old Winnipeg senior is facing possible charges after being stopped for dangerous driving along the Trans-Canada Highway near Elie, Manitoba.
On December 11, 2019, at approximately 9pm, Headingley RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle that was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Highway 1, near Elie. Officers immediately responded and while en route, they received additional reports from witnesses that the suspect vehicle, a minivan, had nearly struck several other vehicles on the Highway.
Using emergency lights and sirens, police officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the vehicle failed to stop. An officer then blocked the westbound lanes of traffic with his marked police truck. The suspect vehicle did not stop and collided with the police vehicle.
RCMP report that the driver, an 84-year-old senior from Winnipeg, along with an RCMP officer, were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Charges against the 84-year-old driver are pending and RCMP continue to investigate this incident.
