On January 2, 2020, at approximately 10:15pm, Selkirk RCMP responded to a report of a break, enter and theft in progress at a residence located in the RM of St. Andrews, Manitoba.

Officers were advised that an unknown male suspect pulled onto the property, backed his vehicle into the garage and was attempting to load items into his vehicle when he was confronted by the homeowner. The suspect then attempted to flee but the homeowner intervened. After a brief struggle, the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle.

Within minutes, reports were received that the suspect vehicle was at a nearby residence and then later seen traveling south on Highway 8, heading towards Winnipeg.

Officers immediately began a search for the suspect vehicle and within a short period of time, located it heading south on Highway 8. A traffic stop was initiated, but the suspect vehicle refused to stop which led officers to deploy a spike belt which was successful in disabling and stopping the vehicle.

Police say that the suspect refused to comply with officer demands and after a brief struggle, was taken into custody.

RCMP report that the suspect suffered injuries during the arrest and was treated and released at the scene by EMS. One officer was also injured and was transported to hospital where he was treated and released.

As a result of this incident, RCMP have charged 25-year-old Connor Todd Sech of Winnipeg with breaking and entering, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, identity fraud, possession of property obtained by crime, robbery and resisting arrest.
