The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) has charged a member of the Virden RCMP with three counts of dangerous driving. The incidents occurred between May 1 and June 1, 2019.
The IIU has conducted a thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances of these incidents. IIU Civilian Director Zane Tessler is satisfied there are reasonable grounds to believe criminal offences occurred and has authorized three counts of dangerous driving under section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.
On January 2, 2020 Constable Kyle Trenholm of the Virden RCMP detachment was notified of the charge and issued a summons to appear in Provincial Court on February 7, 2020 in Virden.
The IIU issued its initial news release on June 5, 2019, advising it had launched its investigation.
