A 61-year-old Gimli woman has recently died as the result of her vehicle colliding head-on with an SUV on Highway 9 near Sandy Hook, Manitoba.
On January 10, 2020, at approximately 1:30pm, Gimli RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 9. The incident occurred at the intersection of 17th Avenue, located approximately two kilometres north of Sandy Hook.
Police investigation determined that an SUV, being driven by a 43-year-old RM of Gimli woman, was traveling north behind another vehicle when the vehicle began to slow down. The driver of the SUV attempted to slow down as well, but due to the icy roads, maneuvered her vehicle to the left to avoid a collision. As a result, the vehicle then entered the southbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle, being driven by a 61-year-old woman from the RM of Gimli.
Police say that the 61-year-old Gimli woman was transported to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The 43-year-old driver of the SUV, along with her 39-year-old female passenger, were not injured in the collision.
RCMP report that alcohol and drugs are not factors in this incident.
