An off-duty Winnipeg Police Service officer is facing impaired driving charges after being arrested by Manitoba RCMP during a checkstop in the Rural Municipality of Springfield.
On December 15, 2019, at approximately 7:30pm, RCMP Eastman Traffic Services conducted a checkstop on Garven Road in the RM of Springfield. Officers stopped a vehicle and the subsequent investigation led to the driver, a 35-year-old male, being arrested for impaired operation of a vehicle.
Tyler Perkins, a police officer with the Winnipeg Police Service, who was off-duty at the time of the arrest, was charged on January 14, 2020 with impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration that was equal to or exceeded 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba was notified of the arrest and monitored the investigation.
