Clearview Co-op has announced that fuel outages may be expected at a number of gas bar locations resulting from a labour disruption at the Co-op Refinery Complex (CRC). Unifor has escalated their actions and illegally blocked access to and from the CRC, as well as the Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) Carseland Terminal and third-party fuel terminals near Winnipeg.
“Unfortunately, Unifor’s actions are impacting fuel deliveries to our locations,” says Geoff Dilts, Operations Manager, Clearview Consumers Co-op Ltd.” We are working with FCL to replenish our supply and will have the affected sites back online as soon as possible.”
Dilts reminds Co-op Cardlock customers of the daily card purchase restrictions on diesel (300 litres) and gasoline (100 litres). These restrictions will stay in place until further notice.
“As our farm customers begin preparing for the spring seeding season, we understand there may be concerns about fuel supply,” added Geoff Dilts. “The CRC continues to operate at a normal seasonal capacity, building fuel inventory for spring seeding at its usual pace. Although the illegal blockades at the CRC and Carseland Terminal have disrupted the flow of product from these facilities, the inventory build-up at both locations has not been affected. FCL and the CRC remain committed to safely and efficiently operating the CRC and fuelling Western Canada, from farmers preparing for seeding, to truckers hauling much-needed goods to school buses starting their routes, and emergency services responding to a call.”
The potential for fuel outages will remain as long as Unifor’s illegal blockades stand, cutting off fuel from Western Canadians. Smaller communities, where Co-op may be one of only fuel sources available, will be prioritized during this time.
