The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating the death of a 27-year-old male following an officer-involved shooting in the 100 block of Kowalsky Crescent in Winnipeg.
On March 10, 2020, the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) reported an incident to the IIU that occurred at 4:47am. WPS reported that officers responded to a call that a male was attacking another male with a weapon. According to the notification, officers engaged the male, resulting in an officer discharging their firearm and striking the man.
IIU has assumed conduct of this mandatory investigation and has deployed a team of investigators.
Since this matter involves a fatality, a request for the appointment of a civilian monitor will be made to the Manitoba Police Commission.
