RCMP are currently investigating two separate assault incidents that recently occurred at the Headingley Correctional Centre and Stony Mountain Institution.
On March 10, 2020, at 10:10am, Stonewall RCMP received a report that a 39-year-old male inmate at the Headingley Correctional Centre had been assaulted.
Initial police investigation in this incident determined that the male had been assaulted numerous times over a two-day period and also suffered a stab wound while in his cell. The victim was transported to hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.
On March 12, 2020, at 1:30pm, Stonewall RCMP responded to a report stating that a 34-year-old male inmate at Stony Mountain Institution had been assaulted.
Officers were advised that the 34-year-old male inmate had been stabbed numerous times while in his cell. The victim was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries where he remains in stable condition.
RCMP report that no arrests have been made at this time in either incident. Officers from the Stonewall Detachment, along with RCMP Major Crime Services, continue to investigate both incidents.
