A 51-year-old RM of Rockwood man has been arrested and is facing numerous charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, after being caught driving in excess of 100 km/h over the posted speed limit.
On July 14, 2020, at approximately 1am, RCMP officers from Stonewall and Headingley were on patrol on Highway 7 in the RM of Rockwood, when they noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Police eventually caught up to the vehicle near Balmoral, Manitoba where the vehicle was caught traveling in excess of 172 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
When police approached the suspect vehicle, a male exited and told officers that he had been kidnapped and that the driver of the vehicle had fled into the nearby bushes. This statement was proven false by police at the scene.
RCMP rerport that the driver, a 51-year-old male from the RM of Rockwood, was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. The man will also be facing charges under the Highway Traffic Act in Manitoba for driving while disqualified, driving an unregistered vehicle and speeding.
