A 55-year-old Winnipeg man has drowned as the result of a recent scuba diving incident at West Hawk Lake in Whiteshell Provincial Park.
At 3:30pm, on July 19, 2020, Falcon Lake RCMP were advised of a scuba diving incident at West Hawk Lake. The initial report indicated that a scuba diver, a 55-year-old Winnipeg man, was pulled from the water. At the time he was unconscious and not breathing.
Upon arrival at the scene, RCMP noted that members of the local fire department and bystanders were attempting to resuscitate the male diver. Despite efforts, the Winnipeg man was pronounced deceased on scene.
Initial police investigation has determined that the 55-year-old man was diving with two other divers in West Hawk Lake at a depth of approximately 20 metres. The companion divers noticed that he required assistance and was brought to the surface. The companion divers continued to bring the man to shore where resuscitation efforts were immediately initiated.
Falcon Lake RCMP are continuing with the investigation.
