On December 11, 2016, just before 8pm, Headingley RCMP received a report of a missing 62-year-old man from the RM of St. Francois Xavier, Manitoba.
Police investigation revealed that the man’s snowmobile was also missing and that he was known to snowmobile near the Assiniboine River. RCMP noted that a search of the area revealed a hole in the ice, which was thin at the time the man went missing.
RCMP report that Underwater Recovery Team has conducted a dive in the area, but due to strong river currents, they were unable to continue under water for safety reasons. The investigation is ongoing.
