A 59-year-old man has drowned after the boat he was in capsized on Hughes Lake, located on the Black Sturgeon First Nation.
On August 5, 2020, at 8:15pm, Lynn Lake RCMP received a report of a possible drowning on Hughes Lake. Officers were advised that a boat with three occupants had capsized, and that a 59-year-old male was unconscious and had to be pulled from the water. The two other occupants, two 24-year-old males, assisted in pulling the 59-year-old out of the water and to shore.
Police say that once on shore, medical assistance was provided until EMS arrived who later pronounced the male deceased.
RCMP report that life jackets were not in use at the time of the incident and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the death.
Lynn Lake RCMP along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate this incident.
