The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is investigating a motor vehicle collision that took place yesterday at the intersection of Dalhousie Drive and Pembina Highway, resulting in a male sustaining serious injuries.
The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) notified the IIU on December 20, 2020, of an incident that occurred around 8:21pm that same day. According to the notification, an officer was traveling southbound on Pembina Highway in a WPS vehicle when he became involved in a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Dalhousie Drive and Pembina Highway.
Both the officer and the driver of the other vehicle, a 52-year-old male, were transported to Health Sciences Centre. According to the notification, the officer sustained minor injuries and was treated and released. The driver of the civilian vehicle sustained a fractured pelvis and broken back.
As a fractured pelvis and broken back are defined as serious injuries, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
