A 30-year-old Winnipeg man has been arrested and charged after RCMP recently seized two firearms in the suspects vehicle during a traffic stop in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
On January 19, 2021, at approximately 8:15pm, Portage RCMP were on patrol when they notice a pickup truck that had lapsed plates. Police were aware of this vehicle as it had been reported on December 18, 2020. Officers then initiated a traffic stop on 8th Street NW in Portage.
Police say that two firearms were visible inside the vehicle.
RCMP report that the driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Stewart Young from Winnipeg, was arrested on scene. Young has been charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unsafe storage of firearms.
Officers noted that one of the firearms seized was a sawed off semi-automatic shotgun.
