Portage la Prairie RCMP recently responded to a serious single-vehicle snowmobile collision in Delta, Manitoba, which police believe was caused in part by alcohol consumption.
On January 31, 2021, at approximately 8:45pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report of a single-vehicle collision involving a snowmobile in Delta, Manitoba. When officers arrived on scene, near the bank of the lake, the driver of the snowmobile was being transported to hospital with very serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
Police say that the 40-year-old male rider of the snowmobile, from Portage la Prairie, had been suspended from operating any motor vehicle, including a snowmobile. Further investigation determined that the rider had been traveling westbound on Lake Manitoba when he struck a snowdrift, causing the snowmobile to become airborne. Once the snowmobile touched down, it appears as though the driver lost control causing the snowmobile to roll. As a result, the rider was thrown off the machine.
RCMP believe that alcohol may have been a factor in the collision. RCMP noted that the driver was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, but it appears the helmet may not have been secured properly causing it to come off during the collision.
