A 24-year-old Steinbach man has recently drowned as the result of a swimming incident that occurred at Reynolds Pond, near Richer, Manitoba.
On June 4, 2021, at approximately 7pm, Steinbach RCMP received a report of a possible drowning at Reynolds Pond. Officers attended the scene immediately and learned that a 24-year-old Steinbach man, who was with two friends, attempted to swim out to a little island, approximately 100 yards from the shore. At some point, he decided to turn around and went under the water on his way back.
Police say that one of the man’s friends was able to get to the area in the water to try and assist him, however, he did not resurface.
Civilian boaters, who were on scene when the male swimmer went under, began searching. Officers also searched the area, but were unsuccessful at locating the missing man.
On June 5, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team attended to Reynolds Pond. With the assistance of the RCMP underwater Remote Operated Vehicle, along with the help of the missing swimmer’s friends providing information on the last point at which he was seen, the male swimmer was located deceased.
