Portage la Prairie RCMP are looking for a suspect vehicle that was recently involved in a hit-and-run incident involving a cyclist on the Trans-Canada Highway near Austin, Manitoba.

On June 28, 2021, at 10pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a report stating that a cyclist had been struck by a vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway, approximately two kilometres west of Austin.

Police investigation has determined that a 40-year-old male cyclist from Ontario, was traveling west on the highway, when he was struck by the passenger side of a vehicle moving in the same direction. As a result, the cyclist was thrown off his bicycle and landed in the north ditch.

RCMP report that the cyclist suffered serious injuries and was transported to Winnipeg hospital. Police noted that that the cyclist did not appear to be wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.

Police say that the suspect vehicle did not remain on scene and are now looking for a red vehicle, likely a pickup truck, with a broken passenger side headlight assembly.
