With the many challenges faced by the local business community and tourism sector this past year, the Steinbach Chamber of Commerce is actively working to create opportunities for the community to engage with local business in an intentional way.
The Backyard Tourist contest had a successful inaugural year. Participants shared photos of themselves supporting local businesses. A local tourism prize pack ($150 value), filled with gift cards to a variety of local tourism and hospitality businesses, was awarded to ten lucky supporters.
The Steinbach Chamber says that it is deeply appreciative of funding received through the Federal Government’s Strategic Initiatives Program (SAP) – Shop Local Initiative grant. Funding programs from all levels of government have enabled the Chamber to invest funds into the local community and provide further education surrounding the ‘support local’ initiative.
“Most of the Chamber’s initiatives have a strong focus on leading growth and connecting people in our community,” said Michelle Bezditny, Executive Director for the Chamber. “Our community is significant and incredible, and the Chamber is absolutely honoured to help support economic growth and stability for our business community through events such as the Backyard Tourist and Steinbach Burger Days. Local businesses are more than just a place to shop – they are a part of the community’s backbone, and they invest in the community in so many ways. Steinbach and area are communities with incredible heart, character, generosity, and integrity.”
Steinbach Burger Days, the Chamber’s next event in 2021, marks this event’s 4th year and the anticipation gains momentum each year. The event is set to be the biggest and best with 19 participating restaurants. Participating restaurants for this year’s event include Bigg Smoak BBQ Smokehouse & Grill, Blatz B-stro, Boston Pizza, Chicken Chef, Doener Grill Express, Domino’s Pizza, Frantz Inn, George’s Burgers and Subs, Golden Fried, Mary Brown’s Chicken, MJ’s Kafe, New B’s Café & Store, Hespeler’s Cookhouse & Tavern (Niverville Heritage Centre), Pita Hut/Lecoka Café, Quarry Oaks Golf Course, Santa Lucia, Sawney Beans, Smitty’s and Chinos Bistro.
