The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating circumstances surrounding a serious injury sustained by an adult female during her arrest by the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS).
On August 11, 2021, the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) reported an incident to the IIU that occurred earlier that day. According to the notification, on August 11 at approximately 8:49am, police officers attended a residence on Forbes Road in response to a call for service. Upon arrival, a female was located armed with a knife and force was used during the course of her arrest.
The female was taken into custody and subsequently transported to hospital, where it was determined that she had sustained a fractured humerus. As this is a serious injury as defined by regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
