A 27-year-old man is facing criminal charges after being arrested by Oakbank RCMP resulting from a recent home invasion incident that occurred at a residence in the Rural Municipality of Springfield.
Early on the morning of August 26, 2021, at approximately 5:50am, Oakbank RCMP received a report of a home invasion occurring at a residence located on Oakwood Road in the RM of Springfield.
Police say that a 27-year-old Winnipeg man, who was known to the family, had broken into the home armed with a knife. A struggle ensued resulting in the injury of a 66-year-old man. A 58-year-old woman at the residence intervened and was able to disarm the suspect which allowed the family the opportunity to exit the residence and call police.
Officers, along with EMS, arrived on scene and were advised that the suspect had barricaded himself inside the home. Contact was made with the suspect and police were able talk the suspect out of the house. The suspect was then taken into custody without incident.
RCMP report that the residencts of the house were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The 27-year-old male suspect remains in police custody with criminal charges pending.
