Upon further investigation into a recent alleged child luring incident, Steinbach RCMP determined that what was initially reported to them as an attempted child luring incident did not occur as originally reported.
Police say that the incident occurred on September 18, 2021, at approximately 8:20 pm, when a vehicle was seen driving by some children at the Kimberly Bay Park in Steinbach. It was originally reported that the driver approached the children and told them to get into his car.
RCMP investigation has now determined that the driver did provide a greeting to the children, but only in passing. It is believed the vehicle stopped and backed up, causing the children to become frightened and run to safety.
Steinbach RCMP commends the children for being aware of their surroundings, getting to a safe location, and alerting police to a potential incident.
