The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) has concluded its investigation into an incident involving the alleged careless storage of a firearm by an off-duty RCMP officer in northern Manitoba. The civilian director of the IIU has determined there are reasonable grounds to believe an offence occurred under the Criminal Code.
As a result of the investigation Cst. Richard Johnson has been issued a summons for December 15, 2021 in The Pas Provincial Court for careless storage of a firearm contrary to s. 86(1) of the Criminal Code.
On February 9, 2021,The IIU announced that it had launched an investigation into the incident.
