The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is investigating circumstances surrounding a serious injury sustained by an adult female during her arrest by the RCMP in Russell, Manitoba.
On November 1, 2021, RCMP reported an incident to the IIU that occurred on September 17. According to the notification, on October 21 a female filed a complaint with the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission (CRCC) for the RCMP regarding a serious injury she sustained during her arrest by an RCMP officer.
The allegation arises from an interaction between the female and an RCMP officer during the course of her arrest on September 17 in Russell. The female reported to the CRCC that she sustained a broken wrist as a result of the incident. As this is a serious injury as defined by regulations, the IIU is mandated to investigate.
