The Manitoba government is planning to open the fourth session of the 42nd legislature on the afternoon of November 23, 2021, with the reading of the speech from the throne by Lt.-Gov. Janice C. Filmon.
At 1pm, Sgt. Kristopher Quiring will lead members of the 26th Field Artillery Regiment Detachment Brandon from 38 Canadian Brigade Group through a 15-gun artillery salute as the lieutenant-governor leaves Government House.
Due to COVID-19 health guidelines, the remainder of the traditional military program, including the inspection of the Guard of Honour and playing of the vice-regal salute, will not proceed this year.
At approximately 1:30pm, the official party will proceed into the legislative chamber. The lieutenant-governor is scheduled to commence reading the speech from the throne at approximately 1:35pm.
The speech will signal the start of the new legislative session and outline what the government, led by Premier Heather Stefanson, expects to achieve during the session, which is scheduled to rise Dec. 2.
