Two drivers were the lucky recipients of large fines, driver suspensions and more, after they were recently caught street racing along Main Street in Steinbach.
On December 4, 2021, at 8:50pm, Steinbach RCMP were patrolling along Main Street when they observed two vehicles street racing. Officers conducted a traffic stop on both vehicles, directly across from Solomon’s Furniture parking lot where several individuals had gathered to observe the racing.
As a result of the incident, both drivers received a $672 fine for racing, a seven-day license suspension and an MPI license review. Officers noted that both vehicles were towed and impounded for seven days as well.
Police say that the driver of one of the vehicles stated it was just a matter of time until he was stopped for racing. The other driver admitted that it was his first time at racing.
RCMP report that both drivers were only 18 years of age and that they regretted their actions.
Steinbach RCMP remind drivers that street racing is a very dangerous activity and when caught, it is very costly.
