Steinbach RCMP are reporting that there were 13 tickets recently issued for speeding and other offences that occurred along Main Street in Steinbach.
On May 13, 2022, at approximately11:14pm, Steinbach RCMP Municipal Traffic Services was stationed on Main Street monitoring the traffic when the automatic licence plate reader (ALPR) alerted on a vehicle with an inactive registration traveling west along Main Street. Subsequent checks completed on the license plates showed that the plates were not the proper vehicle and were not associated to the red Ford Mustang being driven. The officer then followed the vehicle and attempted to pull it over by activating the emergency lights. The vehicle then sped off at high rate of speed, not stopping at stop signs. The officer did not pursue for public safety reasons.
On May 14 at around 2:30am, the same vehicle and driver fled from another police vehicle in La Broquerie, MB. Again the police did not pursue the vehicle for public safety reasons. On May 20, an officer located the Mustang while it was stopped in the drive-thru at a local restaurant. The youth was subsequently arrested for numerous charges under the Highway Traffic Act and Criminal Code charges.
Police say that the driver, a 16-year-old youth from Tolstoi, MB, also had an outstanding warrant and was released. He is scheduled to attend Steinbach Provincial Court at a later date.
On May 22, 2022, Steinbach Detachment General Duty members charged a 17-year-old male from Grunthal with speeding when his 2012 Ford Fusion was observed traveling 124 KPH in a 50 KPH zone on Main Street, Steinbach. The youth subsequently received a $1019 fine and a Serious Offence Notice which includes a licence review.
Steinbach RCMP report that in total, from May 20 to 24, there were 13 tickets issues for speeding and other offences on Main Street.
Steinbach RCMP would like to remind all drivers, as well as registered owners, that fleeing from the police is a Criminal Code offence and it is being taken seriously. Police are equipped with cameras as well as the ALPR which assist us in capturing pictures of the vehicles including their licence plates and drivers.
