Manitoba RCMP are reporting that as a result of the annual Operation Impact initiative, which was run over the Thanksgiving long weekend, over 1,500 vehicles were checked, resulting in numerous fines, charges and tickets being issued.

Police say that the initiative is focused on the enforcement of high-risk driving behaviours that frequently contribute to serious and fatal motor vehicle collisions.

The enforcement action provided the following results:

  • 1,502 vehicles were checked at 24 individual checkstops throughout Manitoba
  • 15 drivers were charged with impaired driving
  • 16 drivers received a roadside suspension
  • 18 tickets were issued for distracted driving

RCMP say that although this was a weekend dedicated to extra traffic enforcement, officers are out there each and every day looking for those who may put the lives of other drivers at risk.
